01 — The challenge

The challenge

Innovative Care WA is an NDIS-registered disability and home-care provider based in Perth, Western Australia. When they came to BrainFeed in early 2026, their site was facing two crises in parallel — and each was making the other worse.

The WordPress site was being repeatedly compromised. Multiple prior agencies had attempted fixes that didn’t hold; within weeks of each cleanup, something would slip through again — spam URLs in the sitemap, plugin failures, server errors.

At the same time, the site had effectively disappeared from Google Search. Pages weren’t being indexed. Google Search Console was flooded with 5xx server errors from old hacked URLs that should never have existed. For an NDIS provider whose new-client journey starts with a Google search at the moment of need, that was the slower-burning but more damaging crisis.

Our audit identified four interlocking root causes nobody had connected. The most striking: the site’s own security plugin had been configured to block all US-based traffic — which includes Googlebot. The security software was, every day, telling Google to go away. No on-page SEO fix could ever take effect, because Google couldn’t get to the site to see it.

02 — What we did

What we did

  • Cleaned up the trail of hacked URLs and hardened .htaccess to return clean 404s instead of the 5xx errors that were poisoning Google’s view of the site.
  • Reconfigured Wordfence — removed the blanket US country block, whitelisted official Googlebot IP ranges, and unblocked the CDN tied to the cache layer. Once we removed those blocks, Google could finally see the site.
  • Resolved an Elementor HTTP 500 error and several plugin conflicts that were breaking page renders, then installed a properly-configured stack of security, backup, cache, and SEO plugins.
  • Set up automated weekly backups with a verified test restore, and replaced ad-hoc auto-updates with a weekly manual routine: backup, update, smoke test, Slack status report.
  • Rewrote every title tag and meta description across all 17 core pages with keyword targeting for Perth WA, fixed missing H1s on About and Privacy plus a duplicate H1 on a service page, and configured Yoast properly with sitemap, schema, and robots.txt.
  • Fixed query-parameter URL indexing at three levels (robots.txt, canonicals, .htaccess), removed lingering noindex tags that had been silently blocking two blog posts from search, and submitted a clean sitemap to Google Search Console to accelerate re-indexing.
03 — The results

The results

The site has been stable since lockdown — no further compromises, no recurring sitemap poisoning, no plugin failures slipping through unattended.

Google indexing has been restored. All 17 core pages now carry keyword-targeted titles, descriptions, and clean H1 structure. Search Console is no longer reporting 5xx errors from old hacked URLs.

The weekly maintenance routine — backup, update, smoke test, Slack report — means issues are now caught in hours, not weeks. With the foundation finally in place, the engagement has moved into the growth phase: a 12-post NDIS-focused blog series is in flight, local SEO and Google Business Profile work is underway, NAP citations have been cleaned across Australian directories, and a full Google + Facebook ads strategy is built and ready to launch.

A “by the numbers” update — Search Console impressions, indexed-page counts, organic traffic growth — will be published as a follow-up at the 3- and 6-month marks, once we have a clean baseline-to-trend dataset.

04 — What's next

What’s next

With the site stable and Google’s trust rebuilt, the engagement has moved into ongoing growth: an NDIS-focused content programme, local SEO and Google Business Profile work, citation cleanup across Australian directories, and a Google + Facebook ads launch. The weekly maintenance routine continues in the background so the foundation never erodes again.
